NY man faces case that tests limits of criminal blame
A Long Island Expressway drunken driving case could redefine liability in a fatal crash. James Ryan, 28, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and other counts after Nassau County Officer Joseph Olivieri was killed responding to prior crashes. Prosecution argues causation and foreseeability apply even though Ryan did not drive the officer. If convicted, Ryan faces up to 25 years in prison.
