Cuomo budget plan faces skepticism from local officials
In Albany, local elected officials questioned Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 2019 executive budget, saying it lacks detail and does not sufficiently ease New York’s tax burden. The $168 billion proposal boosts education funding, adds a surcharge on opioid prescriptions, and taxes health insurers benefiting from the federal tax cut. Cuomo frames it as protection against the federal tax assault and urges state tax reform. Assemblyman Will Barclay criticizes the plan for adding new business taxes rather than cutting them.
