State audit urges changes for Schroeppel
State Comptroller report covers Jan 2013 through March 2014 finding the Schroeppel town comptroller held excessive control over finances. It cites $9,340 in questionable health plan and cellphone payments and a $356 cellphone bill including $101 for a former supervisor. Board member Dunnigan says the former supervisor promised to repay improper charges and that the cellphone policy was halted. The town now receives monthly financial reports and the supervisor’s authority is constrained while oversight increases. The audit’s recommendations emphasize stronger board oversight and proper eligibility for benefits.
