Mexico's Justin Gardner won the boys high jump clearing 5 10. Teammate Tori Towndrow captured the girls high jump with 5. Hannibal's Jason McFarland finished fifth in the 3200 meters in 10 19.33.
Dustin Sands poured in 34 as Hall of Fame Lounge defeated Nine Mile Point 86 to 55 in Oswego City Basketball League action. Nate Redmond added 16 for Hall of Fame Lounge with Robert Grant and Chad Nearbin each at 13. Dave Polton led Nine Mile Point with 17. Also scoring in double figures were Shane Scanlon 15 and Mike Ford 14.
Oswego JV girls basketball fell 37 29 at Homer in a close road game. Coach Megan Daley noted missed shots and transitions cost the team despite outplaying the host. Adeline Benjamin led Oswego with nine points while Jenna McManus and Laura Bornheimer added four each. The JVs host Cortland at 5 p.m. today.
Oswego based St Pauls grades 5-6 boys basketball opened with a December scrimmage in Fulton and a Christmas weekend Oswego State tournament, finishing fourth by beating Massena twice and losing to Watertown Victory Bulldogs and Baldwinsville. They then swept Chittenango Canastota and Oneida in Canastota before a Holiday Classic 3-1 in Rochester, beating Honeoye Falls Batavia and GBA Rochester while losing to CUP Panthers. Upcoming tours include Massena Cortland and Mexico. Players include Callen Carroll Douglas Johnston Pratt Shannon and Chamberlain Devinny Mullen Warner. coaches are Brad Shannon and Brian Warner.
Oswego State travels to Cortland for a key SUNYAC showdown after a double overtime win over Oneonta. Cortland sits 8-1 overall 2-1 in league led by guard Lamard Herron and forward Greagan Carter. Oswego relies on Brian Sortino and Mark Candelario to push past Cortland’s pressure.
Oswego State women’s hockey opens the second half at the Doubletree Ice Hockey Classic in South Burlington facing Plymouth State today and Saint Michael’s on Saturday. The Lakers, 7-2-0 overall and 5-1-0 in ECAC West, aim to continue a strong season with solid goaltending and defensive play led by coach Diane Dillon.
