Gavin M. Kerfien, 20, was sentenced by Oswego County Supreme Court Justice James W. McCarthy to six months in the county facility and five years probation after pleading guilty to second degree attempted assault. A video showed him appearing to throw, choke and scream at the infant in Granby on April 29, 2016. The case stemmed from a child abuse report and a grand jury indictment on related counts including assault of a child and endangering welfare.
A three day retrial in Oswego County Supreme Court found 46 year old Joseph A. Stefanovich guilty of rape in the first degree for a 2005 assault in a wooded Phoenix area. DNA evidence and medical testimony supported forcible compulsion. Sentence expected January 27 with credit for time served.
