Lumbering boom reshapes Redfield river frontier to Oswego
In 1879 Hon. D C Littlejohn began a vast project in Redfield to clear 15000 acres along the Mad and Salmon rivers. A 200 foot wide dam and a 15000 feet per day sawmill launched logging toward Port Ontario and Oswego with shutes booms and guards guiding logs. By spring 1882 about eight million feet remained to run to Port Ontario as freshets sweep the Salmon.
