New York Offers Changes to Freshwater Fishing Rules
New York conservation officials posted online proposed freshwater fishing regulation changes based on fish populations and talks with fishermen. If approved, the changes would take effect April 1, 2017 and aim to safeguard or expand fish populations, simplify rules and improve anglers’ experience. Proposals include reducing the Northern Pike daily limit from five to three on the St. Lawrence River and its tributaries due to poor spawning marsh reproduction linked to habitat degradation from long-term water level management of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence.
