Granby students bond at Gator Buddies event
Granby Elementary School teachers Candace McCann and students Tristin Dillingham and Gabriel Knighton enjoyed a Granby Gator Buddies activity focused on tolerance. Younger and older students teamed for games including a cafeteria parachute exercise and Valentine's Day tasks across several classrooms. Meanwhile, in Minetto a fox tested positive for rabies prompting post exposure treatment for two people. Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang warned about increased animal activity in mild weather and urged vaccines, avoidance of wild animals, proper pet care, and reporting to the county health department for exposure incidents.

Prosecutor calls Szatanek an uncaring predator at sentencing
Oswego County judge imposed 25 years to life in prison for Steven Szatanek, 33, Baldwinsville, after jurors found him guilty of second degree murder in the 2014 drowning death of 17 year old Anna-Rose Shove at Brennan Beach, Lake Ontario. The courtroom heard from Shove’s family, the victim’s mother urging harsh punishment as Moody labeled the murder senseless. Evidence showed Shove and Szatanek met briefly the day she died, with medical testimony supporting homicidal drowning and witnesses describing Szatanek’s uneasy behavior toward women that weekend.
