Phoenix Firebirds win New York State Small School 2 title
Phoenix Central School District marching band known as the Firebirds, rebuilt after a large senior class graduated in 2016, won the New York State Small School 2 championship with an 80.75 score at the Carrier Dome. Despite many new members and role shifts, the band posted week by week improvements under director Nick Gerling and assistant Michelle Rudy, ending a season of challenges with a top finish and pride in their “little band that did.”
