May Require Eye Test for Drivers Over 50
Albany report says the 1961 Legislature may require drivers age 50 and over to take eye tests at each license renewal. The measure would affect about 27.8 percent of New York’s seven million licensed drivers. The Joint Legislative Committee on Motor Vehicles and Traffic Safety released the bill. earlier, a 1960 proposal for drivers 40+ was killed. New York already requires a vision test for a first license.

CAB Investigates New York Air Collision Involving Two Jets
Federal investigators planned extensive questioning of witnesses who saw the Friday collision between a United Air Lines jet and a Trans World Airlines Super Constellation over Brooklyn. A motorist using headlights guided a light plane to an emergency landing in an open field Saturday night. Pilot Damiel Gridley 20 and passenger Arthur Pearce 18 both of Tulsa Oklahoma escaped uninjured after the single engine plane struck a tree top and landed nose down.
