Council trims budget while shielding key city services
City council approves a lean 2018 budget with eight staff cuts and a consolidation deal with Onondaga County to handle several admin tasks. The panel backs most of Pat McLaughlin’s amendments while debating ambulance staffing, a $100,000 light rescue truck for Oswego Fire, and flat water sewer bills thanks to grants. A public hearing is set for August 28 at city hall.

Scriba fights 86.2 percent equalization rate impact
Town officials argue the state’s equalization rate underestimates Scriba property values and shifts school and county taxes. Caraccioli notes a $100k home would rise from about $2,200 to $2,500 in school taxes if kept at 86.2 percent. Scriba plans a final Albany appeal while preparing a full town reevaluation to target 100 percent next year.
