Scrabble Fest returns benefit Literacy Volunteers of Oswego
Oswego County Literacy Volunteers hosts the ninth annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest on Oct 2 at the Oswego Elks Lodge. Teams of four compete for prizes with golden tiles boosting scores, new exchange a tile tokens, raffles and a 50 50 drawing to benefit literacy programs. Barclay announces state aid for library construction
Assemblyman Will Barclay announces public library construction grants for Baldwinsville and Central Square as part of a $14 million state program. Baldwinsville gets 7410 to upgrade paging and transform a story time room into a second community space, while Central Square receives 4300 to improve energy efficiency with new electrical and lighting systems.

Bear attack in Adirondacks injures man and dog
In Stratford Fulton County a 55 year old man and his dog were bitten and scratched by a bear in the Ferris Lake Wild Forest. The dog was off leash when encountered by the bear, which the man chased off with a stick. Injuries are not life threatening. a nighttime bear search failed. The area is about 60 miles northwest of Albany.
