Member's Art Exhibit at AAO in Oswego

The Member's Art Exhibition at the Art Association of Oswego opened in July and runs in the second floor gallery through Aug. 9. The show features watercolor, oil, acrylics, photography, ceramics, jewelry, stained glass, sculpture and more in the Oswego Civic Arts Center on East Fourth Street. Gallery hours are Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m and Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. More details are on www.oswegoarts.org.

Three pedestrians struck by vehicle in Fulton

Three pedestrians were struck near Shotz bar on West First Street in Fulton around 2 a.m. and transported to Upstate University Hospital. Police have several leads. no life threatening injuries reported, and the vehicle remains at large.

Tetro grand larceny trial starts Monday

Oswego county. The New York State Attorney General's Office dropped two charges in the indictment against David and Morgan Tetro, a Minetto couple facing trial next week on charges they stole from a woman in their care. The pair contest the allegations, arguing welfare and tax fraud claims lack proof and presenting video statements from the alleged victim. Judge Hafner heard defense and AG arguments over evidence and jury prep as the case moves toward trial.

Mosquito Tracking in Oswego County Faces Off Against Bugs

West Monroe hosts Shad C Slade Field Station where Chris Williams leads Oswego County Health Department mosquito testing across 16 sites. From May through autumn, ground and hanging traps collect and catalog mosquitoes to detect strains like eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile virus and prevent illness.

Major renovation proceeds on Oswego harbor breakwall

The 19 million project led by the Army Corps of Engineers repairs damage from 2012's Superstorm Sandy and strengthens the Oswego harbor breakwall. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of concrete and rocks are moved daily between the Port of Oswego Authority and work sites to shield the port from hazardous weather effects. Captain Kelly Polashenski notes the large waves caused extensive damage. Local officials call it a huge undertaking with long term dividends for the port.

Five firms chosen to grow and dispense medical marijuana in NY

The five selected vendors include Etain LLC run by Hillary Peckham, Bloomfield Industries, Columbia Care NY LLC, Empire State Health and Wellness, and another company with multi state operations. Each will run one cultivation facility and four dispensaries across New York. Cultivation sites are slated for Queens Orange Monroe Fulton and Warren counties with NYC and suburban dispensaries plus 12 upstate sites. First medical cannabis expected January with access for patients meeting criteria.

County solar project moves forward in Volney

Volney hosts a public hearing on August 4 to discuss SolarCity Corporation site plan for a large solar power system. The project, paired with a county highway garage installation on Route 104 in Scriba, aims to boost financial and energy efficiency for Oswego County. Officials say the effort, begun by a county task force, should save about 355,897 dollars in 2017 with continued savings thereafter.
