Fort Ontario upgrades funded for modernization project
A 1.3 million New York funded effort will modernize Fort Ontario in Oswego with upgrades to electrical systems water lines natural gas lines and sewer infrastructure dating to the 1840s. Crews are active inside the fort and grounds with completion planned for early June. Fort Ontario Site Manager Paul Lear says the project will improve safety power access and interpretive programming while Mayor Billy Barlow highlights state support for the asset. The fort hosts an upcoming History and Archaeology Conference spanning Friday to Sunday.
