Linda Lou Bigman won the Rodeo Queen title after April 25 judging based on ticket sales and ridership. Julie Edmondson, Kathy Wy rick, and Julie Miller served as attendants as the parade and Western Week events highlighted the coronation and rodeo activities.
National Park Service Superintendent Gus Muehlenhaupt reported 598 boats launched in the Wahweap area and 127 at Hall's Crossing during Easter, totaling 772 boats. Park visitors numbered 17,051, with 14,500 in Wahweap. Ranger David Miller suffered minor facial cuts after crashing his boat into a cliff in the dark.
Lari Lopp former Page High School student chosen as California Rodeo Hostess traveling statewide to rodeos and events in official duties visiting sites and speaking at functions across California.
The annual Spring Music Festival under Mrs Margaret Medert will be held in the multi purpose building on Thursday evening May 13 at 7 30 P M. Pupils from kindergarten through eighth grade will participate and the public is invited free of charge.
Seven Free Methodist ministers from Arizona attended Page events April 26 and 27 visiting Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. The Page Chamber of Commerce boat launching contest closes May 7 with tickets sold until noon. the winner launches at 9:00 AM Saturday with NPS and Bureau of Reclamation officials present.
The Sand Devils defeated Tuba City 80 to 41 on April 24 to extend their streak to four wins and one third place in meets. Dennis Poole won the 100 yard dash and led the 880 relay win. Dean Bousman topped the high jump and broad jump. Darwin Tenney claimed multiple places including the 220 yard dash second. Jim Hopkins and Ron Patterson posted top finishes in sprints. Suddeth, Poole, Self, and Bousman won the 880 relay.
Otto Johann Zahn a veteran prospector revisits Glen Canyon area near Page showing a gold claim thirty miles from the San Juan Colorado junction. He recalls early mining life, droughts floods and a boiler still on site. Born in Oakland August 23 1872 his father a Prussian emigrant also prospected deserts before moving to California.
Mr. William Atterholt joined the National Park Service at Wahweap as Administrative Assistant on April 25, 1965. He comes to Page from Big Bend National Park, Texas. The Atterholt family makes their home at 485 Date Street and the two boys are already in Little League. Page welcomes them to the community.
