Sanderson Rites Held In Page Graveyard Services
Raleigh J. Rod Sanderson, longtime government employee retired in Page in 1961, died September 10 in Memorial Hospital Phoenix after a career with the Interior Department including the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Gila River Reservation and the War Relocation Authority. He received the Interior Distinguished Service Award in 1954 for saving three people from drowning. He lived in Phoenix since retirement and memorials were requested to the American Cancer Society. He was born in Farmington New Mexico 1906 and moved to Phoenix as a child. Surviving his wife Lois seven children and many grandchildren attended the services. He helped lead boat parties on Lake Powell and witnessed Glen Canyon Dam construction. He was laid to rest in Page Cemetery with a Phoenix memorial service conducted by Dan McCain.

The American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary are conducting membership drives urging all eligible veterans and their wives to join or renew. Page tourism over Labor Day weekend boosts local stays
Labor Day brought extra tourist trade to Page with out of state visitors. National Park Service Rangers logged 828 boat launches at Wahweap and 1,389 campers at the NPS grounds. Glen Canyon Recreation Area drew 4,890 visitors, including the dam. Boats needed a fire extinguisher after a carburetor issue. another boat at Hall's Crossing had a mishap with a lost rudder. Marie Galliard says she could house 30 more guests and urges Page residents to consider taking in overflow travelers during holiday weekends.
