Greenville Miss Sept 22 reports Marguerite Favor a Memphis woman and Crowell a Fenwood man died in a double murder fire at a Buckeye Oil Mille. Investigators found a hammer, bloodstains, and a torn room. jealousy and a hidden lover may explain the brutal attack.
The Mississippi town of Greenwood mourns as J. C. Crowell prominent Buckeye Cotton Oil official dies in Memphis while Marguerite Favor, a former dancer and actress, is linked to a double murder. Crowell left Greenwood a week earlier on business and is survived by his wife and daughter Daisy. Favor had lived in Greenwood, ran a failed dancing academy, and later performed a benefit play in Memphis before returning to Greenwood occasionally. The piece notes local grand jury concerns over contractor delays and contract compliance across the county.
The September 1915 Lafayette county grand jury adjourned after six days having examined 164 witnesses and returning 20 true bills. The report cites well kept jail and Poor House records but charges raised against county road work and Board of Supervisors.

The university began its eighth session on Thursday September 16 with a prayer by Rev Bruce of Oxford and an address by Chancellor Powers. New hires include Dr Swann Prof Barker Prof Tinsley Griffith and Dr Gunter joining chemistry romance biology and music. About 550 students attend and enrollment is strong across all departments with 65 in medical class and 170 freshmen. The campus reports fuller class sections, lower expenses, and a democratic mission under Chancellor Powers.

J. A. Hall a Confederate veteran and respected Lafayette County citizen died Saturday at the home of his daughter Mrs J Crow in Memphis. He spent much of his life near Oxford and served as county treasurer. The funeral escort accompanied the remains to Oxford on Sunday including Mrs J Crow and Messrs John and Will Hall.
An arrangement will have the Lafayette County Shippers' Association conduct its business in the same building as the Co-operative Stores. The move is described as satisfactory and beneficial to all parties involved.
