Altus News Busy Farmers and School Openings

The community notes busy farmers Lizzie and Viver Wootten and reports attendance at the Philadelphia association. J. M. Anderson died after months of ill health, August 33. Mrs. Carrie Gean and children visited Freeman family. Altus school opened Monday with good attendance. Dallas McFadden teaches, Carrie M. entered Le Mesers. Wilson Beard Ches ley Gean and Raymond Wilson joined College Hill agricultural college.

Oxford High School Opens With Strong Attendance

The Oxford high school opened Monday with a large crowd of patrons and pupils. The service included a congregational song and a blessing from Rev. Walter Bruce. Dr. Johnson outlined coming improvements and noted the school's affiliation with the University of Mississippi. Teachers listed include Miss Louise Roachy, Miss Alma Simms, and others across primary to seventh grades.

Oxford Live Stock Loan Association Forms in Oxford

Members of the Oxford Live Stock Association met at the First National Bank to organize under the Oxford Business Mens Club. H Friedman named chairman and G W Price secretary as the group outlines a 10000 capital, 6 percent loans to farmers for stock raising, five year terms, annual payments plus a 5 percent annual levy for stock certificates, profits used to grow capital, with funds split between two Oxford Banks for loan security and management.

Local broom maker Lovelady grows corn and expands output

Mississippian H. J. Lovelady from four miles south of Oxford visited the city Monday with a pile of brooms. He grows his own broom corn and claims his straw is superior in toughness and length to rivals. Lovelady, a renter, reports strong sales and plans to exceed a thousand brooms ready for market as demand grows in town.

An Arbor Meeting Begins Next Sunday in Oxford Area

An Arbor Meeting will begin next Sunday September 19 four miles northeast of Oxford near the Dowager place. Singing at 3 30 p m preaching at 4 p m. A basket supper for all who come. Preaching at 7 p m each night until further notice. Rev Jas B Leswell of Oxford will do site preaching. Everybody invited.
