Institutions dedicated to childhood and youth education in the state and county operate with faculties of men and women many specially trained for their roles. The emphasis is on organized instruction, community involvement, and long term development of educational programs.
The University of Mississippi in Oxford, Lafayette County, is praised as the region’s top state institution with strong Law Medicine and Education programs. The campus expands with nearly a million dollars in new buildings and equipment this fall. Last year eighty graduates included nineteen Lafayette County diploma recipients.
Dr. W C Murphy head of the history department at the University of Mississippi spoke in Tippah county last Friday and Saturday as part of the better schools campaign. He spoke at Providence Falkner and Tiplersville with good crowds and closed with a morning address at the Ripley courthouse.
Several new dormitories are nearing completion at the State University including Ward Hall for girls and three men’s halls in La Bauve Lamar and Odom. He will lead an expanded drive to reach maximum membership as Red Cross efforts grow to aid disabled World War veterans and their families.
