Tallahatchie County Starts Oil Boom

The Charleston Oil and Gas Company forms with capital of 100000 dollars to explore oil in Tallahatchie County Mississippi. Founders include W B Burke P H Starks Geo Land N H Shields W F Lambert J H Caldwell R H Harrison J L Harris and W L Johnson. Plans call for a 5000 foot well near Charleston within 30 days, with exploration aimed to finish in six months. State Geologist E M Lowe and geologist Julius Fohs back the project as Mississippi oil prospects appear promising.

Scribblers Meet at Gordon Hall Opening Sigma Upsilon

Scribblers of Sigma Upsilon held their first year meeting in Gordon Hall last Tuesday with full attendance. Papers on the Irish Renaissance by Prof. Erwin and Mr. Cochran opened the program, followed by Prof. Bondurant on his Dijon work. Refreshments later featured salad olives crackers and coffee served by Messrs Wright and Doxey.
