A devastating blaze at the Deville Building in Ville Platte Louisiana last night during a parish dance claimed 25 lives and left 15 others gravely injured. Mothers leaped with babies to reach rescuers as panicked crowds crowded the narrow stair to escape. The fire started when an oil stove exploded in Martin's grocery a lower floor corner.

Somey Rogers, a colored man, accidentally discharged a loaded pistol in his store at about 2:30 this afternoon. The ball injured Willie Kimmons with a slight flesh wound. he was treated at a local hospital. No arrests were made.
