Red Cross relief efforts in Lafayette County surpassed expectations with near full county participation. A published list shows numerous contributors donating amounts from $1 to $5 with many names printed. smaller gifts under $1 were not listed this week. Further donor details will appear next week as the drive continues.
A brief note shows names including Menken Sneed and a dollar amount of 2 dollars, 1.18. The list will be continued in the Eagle next week.
Mississippi must supply 267 nurses by January 1 1919 as part of a nationwide Red Cross recruitment. The Gulf Division seeks 1 000 nurses. qualified graduates aged 23 to 40 with at least two hospital years may enroll. Applications to Mrs Jeanie Cameron or Miss L A Daspit withMiss Mary Trigg as a contact in Greenville.
S M Howry Jr aged 36 died Sunday at Bramletts Hospital after two years of ill health. He was a tailor, never married, born in Oxford and survived by his father and five brothers. Funeral at 5 pm from the Howry home on South Street, burial in Oxford cemetery with Rev Christian officiating.
While driving a mail route horse stepped at high speed causing the buggy to overturn. Mrs O T Whitehead suffered a fractured collar bone a broken rib and bruises. She was found unconscious and taken to Bramlett's hospital where she is improving.
Mr. and Mrs. G D Morgan of Rich Mississippi are guests of Mr Morgan's household.

Dr. A. E. Russell and Mrs. Russell will leave June 1 for Louisville Kentucky. Dr. Russell will attend a Dental Association meeting while Mrs. Russell visits relatives. They plan to be away about two weeks.
My office will be closed from Saturday June 1 until after the 15th During this period I will attend the Dental Convention in Lexington Kentucky and the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners Albert E Russell
Floyd Calloway underwent double inguinal hernia surgery at Bramlett's Hospital on Monday. He applied to enlist in the marine corps but was rejected due to the condition and plans to reapply once fully recovered in a few days.
The War Department announces a June 5 1918 registration day for men reaching 21 since June 5 1917 or by June 5 1918. Crowder’s office will use local boards to register between 7 am and 9 pm, with penalties for noncompliance. Divinity and medical students must register, though exemptions apply after registration. Local boards set the process and place for each resident.
