A large crowd attended the senior play A Japanese Wedding at the Opera House on Tuesday evening. Rev. Crane, a Korean missionary, described how ceremonies are performed in Japan. The show featured a rainbow kimonos procession, a Japanese drill, and ukelele performances. Groom Bedford Russell and bride Annie Mae Shincannon led the wedding tableau with a long list of attendants and honored guests.

Picture Show for Children in Oxford by Red Cross
On Saturday June 7 at 2:30 PM the Opera House hosts a Red Cross children’s picture show featuring the Lee children, with admission for soldiers’ families. Mothers and housewives may hear a lecture by Mrs. Rogers in the Federal Court Building at the same hour. Also, games and story hours for children will run Saturday morning in Court House yard.

Burgess School Closes After Five Year Term
The Burgess school closed on May 9 with closing exercises May 11 led by Brother Rowland Q Leavell of Oxford who preached on A Full grown Man. Hon H D Stephens delivered the closing address and a concert followed. Mr Stephens drew a full house. The 1918 19 exercises marked the end of a five year term for Mr and Mrs E S Samuels who move to Lafayette Springs. W O Mills on 18 day leave from USN is home. Clifford Jones drove a new Ford from Memphis. Dr Price and family of Taylor visited.

Redpath Chautauqua Opens With Packed Tent
The Redpath Chautauqua began moving its big tent seats and equipment to the show grounds Tuesday afternoon. At 3 30 the first program was rendered and the tent was filled with applause. Attendance and ticket sales are strong as Oxford residents eagerly anticipate the season. Shows run daily at 3 30 afternoon and 8 30 at night through Tuesday night.

Death of Mrs. L L M Brummett in Denmark
Mrs. L L M Brummett died Wednesday at 4 30 p m at her Denmark home after a three year illness. She was 52, survived by husband L M Brummett and seven children. Cause of death listed as liver cancer. Remains interred at Lafayette Springs with Rev W L Smith officiating.

Fire alarm at Science Building sparks rapid blaze control
