Oxford in Turmoil as Four Claim Clerks Fight for Office

Oxford faces a clerk muddle with four claimed city commissioners after an election for City Clerk produced Louis Stephens as the top vote getter though ineligible. H. A. Moore was named interim clerk as a contest proceeds while Mayor Beanland and Commissioner Farr clash over warrants and recognition. A recall threat looms as Governor Bilbo’s commission is scrutinized.

Death of Mrs Elizabeth Adams in Oxford

Mrs Elizabeth Adams 63 wife of Hon R S Adams died at 10 am after thirty years in Oxford. She had five children and the funeral from Ash Street on Sunday at 4 pm with interment in the city cemetery. Rev W W Woollard officiated. Survived by husband five children Mrs W E Major Blue Mountain Mrs C Lyles Paris W S Adams New Albany W W Adams Hughes Ark and Mrs W G Bobo Shreveport La.

State Memorial for Soldiers and Sailors

Mississippi plans a Memorial Hall with three features Court of Honor War Museum and Reunion Hall. The Court of Honor will list every local Army or Navy entrant and include Confederate and war organization records. The War Museum will display Mississippi war relics and Allied equipment from wars. The Hall of Reunion will host large public events and conventions.

The Lafayette County Reconstruction Convention planned for Oxford on June 12 and 13 has been postponed to July 4 and will be held in conjunction with the Welcome to Our Returned Soldiers at the Camp Ground. Chairman W. D. Hedleston announces the change.

Oxford Lady in California Visits Southern Exhibit

Mrs. D. F. Carter of Oxford visited the large Los Angeles exhibit of Southern California products on May 26 there with Itetuxes and moving pictures forming part of the daily program. She plans to tour other Southland sights before returning home.

Navy anti submarine flotilla visits Mississippi river

The U S Navy anti submarine flotilla now on the Mississippi includes the submarine and the destroyer Isabel with submarine chasers and flying boats. The flotilla aims to showcase ships guns and equipment used against U boats to people along the river as it travels toward St Louis with planned calls at principal ports, a Navy band and glee club aboard, and motion pictures of navy life to be shown at each stop.
