Draft Dodgers Indicted Amid Alabama Draft Disputes
In Birmingham Alabama on May 17 1921 war rants for 1 000 more alleged slackers and draft violators in the Northern District of Alabama will be issued before June 5. Assistant U S district attorney James Smith says the draft law becomes inoperative after June 5 and arrests after that date cannot be legal. He estimates 5 000 men failed to comply. The Mississippi Press Association meeting in Gulfport concluded after debates on woman suffrage with officers reelected and plans for a Boston 1921 National Editorial Association meeting.

A colored automobile mechanic, Chess Corothers, died after a gasoline leak ignited while he tried to repair a car on College Hill street last Saturday evening. A companion struck a lighted match, igniting vapors that set Corothers ablaze before he could escape the vehicle.

Mr Cole to Succeed Supt Downing at Water Plant

Co operative Marketing Proves Profitable for Arkansas Hog Shipments
During the first 100 days of 1920 Arkansas farmers shipped 68 co operative hog carloads from 22 counties. Some 6 480 hogs were owned by 700 farmers averaging over ten shippers per carload. Returns totaled 127 590 52 dollars with shipping costs at 94.3 cents per hundredweight. The margin above local prices reached 260 dollars per car and total savings exceeded 17 500 dollars. Cattle shipments are expected to follow similarly in 1920.
