Preparations for Good Roads Meeting in Oxford

Saturday April 1 heralds Good Bowls Day in Oxford with a large assembly expected. Civic leaders Mayor D W Robins of Rycle and J F Flournoy Jr banker road builder of Funton will speak on road building experience. Local committees meet at the county junts court room at 1 o clock to notify residents and coordinate the event.

Five prisoners sent to state farm at Parchman

Five men, shackled and handcuffed, are marched from court to the State Farm at Parchman to begin sentences. Named are Maroon Davin for forgery, Beown for embezzlement, Jones for burglary, Earseth for burglary, and Heon for larceny, with Eb. Gowes also noted for forgery and embezzlement cases.

W V Tidwell Dies After Illness at 39

W V Tidwell, 39, a farmer of Yoccona, died Monday at Culley Hospital Oxford after nine days of pneumonia. He was moved from home to hospital last Saturday but died as doctors could not control the disease. He leaves a wife and seven children. Remains interred at Pine Flat Cemetery Tuesday afternoon. Eagle extends condolences.

Confederate Veterans appoint staff for Columbus reunion

General orders name Brigadier General F T Sykes and a long list of officers as the staff for the United Confederate Veterans reunion to be held in Klruanethane Alabama May 14 15 and 17 of 1916 under Lt General George P Harrison. The notice designates adjutant generals inspector generals quartermaster generals and other posts with a final call for full attendance.

Health officer warns milk men on state dairy regulations

Dr Culley, city and county health officer, mails to all milk and dairy men a set of state health rules. Key provisions require permits, yearly renewals, proper dairy construction, milk rooms, tuberculin testing, cleanliness at milking, health restrictions for workers, daily manure removal, and adherence to state dairy regulations for all milk sold in public venues.

Some Fine Suggestions and Ideals for Oxford

The Mississippi Anti Tuberculosis Committee offered $100 in prizes in October to rural schools for a six month health campaign. By April 15 reports are due. The platform includes screened houses, sanitary closets, year round gardens, daily fruit and vegetable can, clean sleeping rooms, sanitary school houses, reliable water, epidemic-free schools, and home made fly traps. Oxford is urged to aim higher and match progressive town health standards cited by the Florida State Board of Health Bulletin.

Dairy sanitation rules for milk handling and storage

The notice requires thorough washing of cans bottles and vessels returning for sale and mandates sanitary privies at dairies. It bans leaving milk bottles with typhoid or infectious cases and requires sealing in hot water and sunning, with strict fly protection and clean premises.
