At the March term Judge J L Bates presided as jurors were sworn and cases heard. State vs Rube Bratton and John Matthis were continued or disposed with fines or costs. Guss Brown received a life term in the penitentiary for the primary arrest and court actions proceeded with numerous continuances and pleas.
Lafayette county schools hold annual Fields Day on March 23 and 24 at Oxford. March 23 at 2 30 the Oxford High School girls basketball team faces Paris in public school grounds. Events include dashes, relays, and prizes such as candy by G W Buffaloe and stationery by Dr Faser.
The program runs all day with declamations songs and literary features at the theater. Graduating exercises begin Friday at 10:30 a m with Dr Miklen of the University addressing the class. Afternoon athletics and various contests crown the county championship events for girls and boys teams.
A memorial notice from New Hope Baptist Church of Christ honors M. M. Smith who joined the church in 1888. The resolution laments his death, praises his faithfulness, and offers sympathy to his family. A copy will be spread in church records and published in The Oxford Eagle and the Baptist Record.
Dear Mr Editor writer D F Hove notes Mississippi legislature faces a revenue shortfall as property values dropped about 12 percent since 1914 and 1915. He urges cuts of at least 20 percent across appropriations and salaries to balance the state budget with adjournment eyed for March 23.

He notes voting for a people’s vote amendment, opposing further bonds unless necessary, and supporting school funding while criticizing preparedness measures as unnecessary.
