Death of Mr Fudge Marks Loss for Lafayette County
The death of Mr Fudge occurred Monday after an operation at Bramlett's hospital. He was about 64, leaving a mother, wife, ten children with two sons in France, and many relatives. Rev. H. L. Johnson led funeral services at Yellow Leaf Cemetery where burial took place Tuesday.

Negro dies after jail escape attempt
At 2 PM today Leonard Burt, a black man chained for his life trial on wife murder, died after a jailbreak attempt during relocation from the county jail to the courthouse. Officers Whitehead and Metts pursued him as he dashed into an alley between the jail and nearby stores, Metts fired toward the ground to halt him, but Burt continued fleeing.

Convicted murderer Leonard Burt dies after police shootout
Leonard Burt, captured at Greenwood after fleeing Oxford, was shot four times by Officer Metts during a pursuit behind the Miller hotel. He died at Bramlett’s hospital at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burt confessed to murdering his wife last September, saying jealousy sparked the crime. He, about 24, had lived two miles east of Oxford.
