Friday evening Mrs. George Buf faloe Sr entertained Hon C Ross of Gulfport. Brides-elect Miss Mary sine Wendel and Miss Shirley Firkwood were being honored with several show ers and entertainments this week.
Mrs Charlie Sisk was complimented Wednesday morning as her sister Mrs Harry Sisk hosted a bridge party in her honor. Mrs W S Robinson entertained the Priscila Clile Thursday with luncheon. The pink and white scheme influenced an ice course. Mrs Robert Farr taught basket making.
Miss Allye J. Fisak ersley of Kilmichael and Louis W. Jones of A M College were married Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Bangart in Columbus. The groom is a recent A M College graduate and the couple will teach next session at the Consolidated High School near Grenada.
Miss Inez Fitch and Mr Elbert Frazier of Tate county were quietly married at the time of the officiating minister Rev W L Smith in College Hill. Mrs Frazier is a graduate of Lafayette Agricultural High School and a popular teacher.
The spring wet season requires quick use of cotton and advises applying acid phosphate before planting. A hundred pounds of phosphate costs 15 cents per acre and could boost yield by about two hundred pounds.
A Union Mississippi brief notes Mrs J E Arnold enters the Fifth District race for Congress. Described as cultured with Washington experience and a champion for women, Arnold is contrasted with incumbent Ross Collins, whose campaigning reputation is noted as strong and business likely to pick up.

About 100 Amory merchants subscribed to a 1650 buy in for a five day Chautauqua season in 1923. The contract closed with plans for a free Chautauqua next year to bring wholesome entertainment and wider publicity to the program despite a small audience this year.
Miss Susie Dale Calloway and Gillespie Latham united in marriage Thursday evening at the Calloway home. Rev. Latham, father of the groom, officiated before families of both sides. Mrs. Latham taught school in Oklahoma last winter.
In Mississippi, Mrs. Pearl Kirksey of Leake County District No. 5 becomes the state’s first woman justice of the peace. Governor Russell appointed her to succeed her late father W. H Greer after a petition by local citizens. Her term lasts until an election ordered by the board of supervisors.
A Board of Supervisors member responsible for the link road is urged to fix the deplorable condition of the Jefferson Davis highway near Tallahatchie bridge. The writer says a few loads of gravel would restore the link to usable condition.
Mississippi A. and M. College builds on the Animal Husbandry Club by forming the Hair and Hide Club to showcase practical livestock demos for Dad’s Day on November 24 and 25, 1922. Members include students in Animal Husbandry Dairying and other clubs. Provisional officers named R. D. Spinks president C. G. Harmon vice president and J. Pearce secretary treasurer.
Mrs Lillian Russell Moore died at her home early today in Pittsburgh Pa Funeral services will be held at Trinity Protestant Episcopal church Thursday afternoon Her husband Alexander P Moore publisher of the Pittsburgh Leader will place the body in a vault until a mausoleum is erected
Corn prices and all corn products have risen recently with local mills in Wyatte selling corn and meal for $1 cash. Weather has been ideal for two weeks, aiding crop growth though acreage remains below last season.
Leakesville Mississippi June 8 Judge Luther M Burch of Jackson spoke in support of ex United States Senator James K Vardaman as he seeks the John Sharp Williams senate seat. Burch highlighted Vardaman s Democratic record as speaker in the state legislature governor and senator and defended four of five votes critics question as aligned with party platform.
In Meridian Mississippi on June 5 a lively slate of potential candidates emerges for county offices. Incumbents like Sheriff John M. Martin and Tax Collector W. N. Denton face possible challenges from figures such as Walter F. Pulliam, E. E. Mosby, John Norwood, and others. Chancery Clerk George F. Hand may draw John T. Dement, while superintendent J. A. Riddell could face Mrs. B. O. Caldwell, the first woman contender for a county post.
Newton County will begin a north south road from Hickory linking Newton and Jasper counties with bonds approved two years ago. J J Hardy state highway engineer completed a six mile survey and construction starts immediately. Dixie Highway falls under state highway department control under new funding from the recent law splitting automobile tax proceeds.

The oil well near Oxford remains inactive with no definite steps toward resuming drilling. Ike Roberts last reported it still existed in its former location, and promoters are said to be returning soon to push ahead with the project.
Holly Springs Mississippi June 6 The board of supervisors in session voted to appropriate 1000 for the benefit and use of the old soldiers home at Beauvoir. The decision pleases local residents who regard the measure as a worthy cause.
