At a July 4 board meeting Lafayette County votes to issue ten thousand dollars in notes at six percent interest to fund levee and bridge work on the Jefferson Davis Highway. The Highway Commission provides three hundred ninety thousand dollars, with plans to raise, widen and hard surface the Tallahatchie bottom levee. Notes mature by February 15, 1923, and will be repaid from 1922 taxes unless ten percent of eligible voters protest and force a county election.
