Governor Russell pleads for a broad, aggressive government to boost Mississippi's economy, morals, and welfare. He emphasizes democracy, equal rights, and ballot integrity while urging unity, pardoning board continuity, and state farm sales as part of his program.
Governor Lee M Russell speaks to lawmakers urging unity and forward action for Mississippi. He warns against obstructionists and highlights the need for a Bureau of Markets and Publicity to improve agricultural marketing, diversify crops, and establish county and state systems for better prices and cooperation.
In January in bry Mississippi four members of the Mitchell family were killed in Tombigbee Bottoms Old Position Pond when a dynamite attack and arson destroyed the house. Pearl May Mitchell survived and identified Charley Marshall, arrested in Aberdeen, as the killer amid a prior assault charge. A lamp oil and fire ended the crime scene with multiple victims including a 10 month old.
Jackson Mississippi January 20 report says Charles Marshall the alleged slayer of four Miller family members at Amory is in the Hinds County jail. Jailor Russ Harris blocks access to his cell as Marshall remains silent about the troubled case. It is not clear how long he will be held before grand jury inquiries conclude.

A "conservated conference committee" formed to oppose salary increases. Senate bill repealing the 10 percent delinquent tax penalty extended tax time to February 1, 1920. Four masked robbers held up the Phenix Girard Bank in Girard Alabama on January 16 taking about $30 000 in cash and securities. They entered quietly then used pistols to threaten staff and customers while one looted the vaults and another confronted President C L Mullin who refused to be intimidated. An employee Miss Maude Bruce defended herself and was bruised. The quartet fled in a car pursued by Mullin and local authorities with bridges guarded near the Chattahoochee as insurance covered the loss and the bank planned to reopen tomorrow.
Governor Bilbo addressed the Mississippi Legislature revealing expected Pasca goula labor trouble and urging a state labor bureau and a board to judge auto mechanic qualifications. He noted high repair costs from inefficient workers and called for wage efficiency. Lieutenant Governor Lee M. Russell then swore in H. H. Casteel as his successor and assumed the gavel in the Senate.
