The Build ing Committee sold half a million dollars in bonds for permanent improvements at educational institutions and about a quarter of a million will be spent this summer at the University. Oxford merchants expect a large payroll and growth in student capacity boosting the town’s economy and population.
A rubbing application of Ballard's Snow Liniment is promoted as a quick relief for aching joints rheumatic pains and neuralgia. It is described as a penetrating remedy offered in three sizes 30c 60c and 1.20 per bottle and sold by A H Kendel.
Mr. Charlie Cromwell of Gorman Texas and Miss Lora Morgan of Atlas Miss quietly married at the bride’s parents home on the 6th. Rev. Lee Lipscomb officiated.
Mr J C Hartley of Tyre and Miss Lorena Murchison of Albeville married at the Oxford Hotel with Elder W L Smith performing the ceremony.
Mr Ben Kitchen of New Albany and Miss Dagma Huggins of this city were married at the bride's home by Reverend Motley on Sunday afternoon. They departed after the ceremony for their new home near New Albany.
Mississippi State Plant Board tasks all sweet potato and potato plant growers with official inspections prior to shipment. Growers must attach Plant Board certificate tags to each parcel. Exempts market potatoes from infested areas from the requirement.
The South Street Presbyterian Church missionary society held its January meeting at Mrs Garner Owens home with a large group. They hosted a New Year card shower for Mrs Plant, expressing love and regret at her leaving Oxford, and presented a memory book. An advertisement promotes Prickly Ash Bitters with health claims, priced at 1 25 per bottle via R R Chilton & Co.
The State Plant Board reports Mississippi has been free of citrus canker for a year and no known danger centers remain. From 1916 to 1918, over 3,000 grove trees and 50,000 nursery trees were destroyed and 121 farms or nurseries were found infected but deemed no longer dangerous. The board will continue surveillance and warns that canker could be reintroduced from other states.

Meridian Miss January 18 Mrs Moody Price testified to the coroner s jury investigating the death of her husband hacked to death with an axe last Friday morning in bed beside her. She described two men seen in the room with a flashlight and said she lost consciousness after the blow. Bloodstains on bathroom wallpaper and a handprint on a back door were found during a later visit and the axe and wallpaper stains were sent to New Orleans for fingerprint photographs.
A Department of Justice letter informs Tax Assessor J. E. Alen that women should be assessed for poll tax as of February 1, 1921, with no poll tax payment required for 1920. Signed by Attorney General Frank Robertson.
Grace Wright, 12, died at Oxford Hospital after severe burns suffered at a rural school near Burgess earlier in the week. The paper notes the tragedy and urges improved rural school facilities and safer conditions for children at school.
Gracie Wright, twelve, daughter of Henry Wright near Burgess, is in critical condition at Oxford Hospital after her dress ignited from an open fireplace in a temporary school building. Proceeds will fund building projects at Mississippi institutions including Mississippi A&M Starkville mess halls and dormitories Columbia Industrial Training School cottages Alcorn A and M Rodney and University of Mississippi Oxford women’s dormitory. The commission members include Governor Russell and officials Castell Robertson Key McCallum Conner Stone Bailey.
Dr and Mrs J W Satterfield of Earle Ark announce the engagement of their niece Olivia M Thomas to Frank B Beattie of New Orleans. The wedding is set for January 18 at the First Presbyterian Church.

The Camp 171 United Confederate Veterans issue heartfelt resolutions on Maj S W Pegues known as Maj Pegues who died in Oxford Mississippi on December 5 1920 after a life as a Confederate veteran and public servant. They praise his fidelity to faith and duty and extend sympathy to his family.
