The Honorable Board of Trustees receives the final report from Jackson Mississippi inmate Matthews praising kind treatment. The message notes term completion and improved condition of convicts with crops all gathered and prisoners in good health.

He speaks of defeat without bitterness, gratitude for loyal supporters, and extends best wishes to his successor and rival, Hon. L. Stone, while noting continued goodwill among officers.
The county outlines five fund distributions for public schools including the Chickasaw fund first half at 2180 dollars in November and state funds totaling about 316900 in January based on educable children. Poll tax and remaining state funds arrive in June and another Chickasaw half follows, totaling roughly 34000.
City Marshal Lex Ramey arrested Houston Jones in the county jail on suspicion of multiple store burglaries in Oxford. Evidence including stolen money, cigars, and merchandise linked to Jones was recovered, and Ramey believes the case may cover several incidents and could convict the suspect.
Rev J R James preached to Mt Zion congregation for the first time on Sunday and will return with his services the second Sunday of each month. Mrs Chas Chateney has returned home from Schiater after visiting daughter Mrs Fountain Calloway. Mrs Hitchcock who moved nearby died last week. Annie Still has been ill a few days. Clyde Crouch remains seriously ill at home.
Oxford High School’s second team edged Burgess 18 to 4 after a close first quarter. Orwood Willis led with fine field goals as Oxford pulled away. McElroy officiated. Walter Jones scored Burgess’ four points.
Hon L L Davis returns to Jackson to report on a busy week in the Mississippi Legislature. He notes Connor of Seminary won the Speakership, Powers of Jackson captured the clerk post, and Evans placed second. He describes broad support for the door keeper race and says unity followed the ballots. He promises more updates in The Eagle.

William Purvis born August 26 1831 in Marion County Alabama died recently at an advanced age in Lafay ette County. He married Miss 8S A Cantrell in 1851 and they had ten children, eight living. A Baptist member for about forty years, he belonged to Bethel Baptist church and was laid to rest in Kingdom Cemetery after a service by Learer.
