Arson arrest in Tula over schoolhouse fire and threats
Carl Blackwell, about 25, of Water Valley Mississippi, jailed in Oxford on arson charges tied to the destruction of the old Hughes school and the new consolidated school at Tula. He is accused of sending vile Ku Klux Klan letters urging Miss Mary Whitson’s dismissal, with letters mailed along the Fulton Grenada line. In the Vicksburg Jackson region oil tests show no Woodbine sand yet. Geologist George O Baird drilled Madison and Lauderdale counties to 3020 and 3000 feet, both missing Woodbine. Tests at Lake Washington and other sites are dry. prospects remain in northeastern Mississippi with favorable structures and formation similarities to Louisiana fields.

Lafayette County's oldest bank reported a strong 1921 year and announced on November 9 that J H Smallwood, formerly cashier of the Bank of Ripley, was elected president for 1922. General James Stone resigns from active management but remains as director and attorney. Major L E Oldham continues as vice president.
