Paris reports a large raid south of Butte Mesnil destroying defenses and shelters. More than 100 prisoners were captured as German positions along about 1200 meters of front were overrun. The period Feb 1 to 10 saw 28 German aircraft downed with 14 destroyed and 14 damaged.
L M Brummett of miles from Oxford praises Southern California in a letter to the editor. He says the region enjoyed a notably early summer in 1917 with Angeles and suburbs and coastal resorts filled with visitors and activity.
U S Food Administrator Lee Baggett declares flour purchases require a signed certificate showing substitutes are in possession. Merchants selling flour without an affidavit and certificate sign will be reported and barred from handling flour. Certificates are available at the Eagle office for 50 cents per hundred. Spring football practice at Tulane starts March 1 under Capt elect Legendre and Simpson to prepare material not yet tried in the game.

The body of Mrs Cornelia Wat Gregory mother of Hon T W Gregory general of the United States was laid to rest in Columbus Mississippi today. A brief funeral service was held at 10 30 this morning at the First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev R Excell Fry. Floral offerings arrived from all sections and messages of sympathy were sent. The attorney general attended and planned to remain in the city for a day or two before returning to Washington.
Reverend G A Klein a evangelist and gifted singer C B Clark lead a series of religious services at Ole Miss for students. Klein a former college coach offers a message on unity and character with a campus orchestra and a noted singer. Evening singing led by a brother figure with Oxford ties. Services begin tomorrow night with intructions for all students to attend.
