Former Oxford Man Loses Tooth in Arrest Incident
Paul White, former Oxford man and city police officer, arrested Tomic Salter on burglary charges. Salter struck White in the mouth on Johnson Street near the Southern Depot, knocking a tooth out as White pursued. A bullet struck Salter in the leg. he collapsed two blocks away and was taken to the city jail. Memphis officials had warned of Salter as a gunman.
