Frances Birkhead, former stenographer, sues Governor Lee M. Russell for $100,000 alleging seduction years ago through promises of marriage. The suit, filed in county court, features denials and counter charges from Russell and ongoing testimony from both sides in Oxford. The trial draws regional attention as witnesses and lawyers fill the Colonial Hotel lobby.

The Men's Bible Class of the First Baptist Church in Oxford offers to help county churches without pastors by sending members to hold services on invited Sundays. They prefer afternoon trips, postpone until after March due to short winter days and possible bad weather, and seek fraternal fellowship and mutual support among nearby churches.
The federal grand jury met under 48 hours and returned 49 indictments before adjournment on Wednesday. A full report will be printed in the Eagle next week. The Russell Birkhead damage suit has consumed most of this week and is expected to continue for at least two more days.

In Kosciusko in November 2021 the 4th district M F W C annual meeting gathered seventeen of twenty-one clubs with district president Mrs. H C Featherston presiding. Members welcomed state president Mrs. J C Hardy and noted clubs contributed to a $5,000 library fund for the State Tuberculosis Sanitarium. District dues rose to ten cents per capita funding a $25 annual Hebron Memorial Scholarship loan fund for Mississippi women with college degrees pursuing further study. Officers elected: Mrs Nellie Stephens president, Mrs N V Seesel secretary, Mrs Eugene Cole treasurer.
The Oxford Mississippi congregation plans a Rally Day Service on Sunday December 10 to mark the sixth anniversary of Rev J A Christian’s pastorate. Committees prepared plans for a service of appreciation and thanksgiving honoring his leadership and the church’s growth in the community university and presbytery.
The Methodist Church will host a Sunday sermon titled Sher lock Holmes and His Moral Counter part. Parishioners are urged to attend with eyes open and senses awake.
The Akeyuhapi Club met Tuesday evening at the country home of Miss Louise Blasin. Eighteen girls attended, cars took the crowd, a brief business session preceded a sing song, and refreshments were served by the hostess and her mother.
Col Albert Sidney Trigg died at home in Valliant on Friday November 17 1922 at 7 35 pm from apolectic stroke. Born September 26 1861 in Oxford Mississippi he had lived in Dallas Pine Bluff Fort Smith and Valliant where he led the Plant ers Trading Co and the Commercial Club He is survived by Mary York Trigg York Trigg and Mrs J H Noyes. The funeral was in Oxford Mississippi.
Lafayette County Agricultural High School held a library programme in College Hill with Prof. J. W. Broome as the speaker on libraries. About 300 attended a basket dinner and a tag day raised funds totaling 968.15 dollars for the school library.
Dr. A L Bondurant attends the meeting of the Standardizing College and Southern Association of schools and colleges in New Orleans this week. He travels with Dr. W L Carr of Oberlin College, guest and committee member for classical investigation of the American Classical League, one of three of ten committee members dedicating their time to a U S classical survey. The University Classical Clubs will hear Dr. Carr speak Saturday evening at Ricks.
