Daring raid by Oxford men nets two stills

Night Marshal Black reports two raids near Oxford this week. Six officers including Buck Collins Heard Billingsley Temple McLarty and Black surrounded a still on the Porter place six miles south of Oxford. deputies fired over twenty five shots but the men fled. One captured negro man later with a shotgun claimed he was hunting. Officers expect arrests of others connected to the white mule outfit.

New Orleans Police Clash With Striking River Workers

In New Orleans 250 police fought for an hour with union sympathizers over a river front strike. The five block clash near Canal Street left several injured and numerous arrests as bystanders watched. Police reserves aided by harbor guards, no shots fired, two bystanders wounded, injuries not fatal, arrests incomplete.

Remains of Bennie Vick Arrived After Murder in Arkansas

The remains of Bennie Vick, about 30, arrived today at 11 o clock and were taken to his father in law James Hair. Vick was murdered in Blytheville Arkansas on Tuesday night at midnight. The funeral is set for St Peters cemetery this afternoon. He leaves a wife and two children. Vick was a Lafayette county native with many local friends and relatives.

Remodeling of Colonial Hotel Begins for First National Bank

Work on the Colonial hotel remodel started this morning under contractor Joe Smith who has a large crew. The corner will house the First National Bank with plate glass fronts and an estimated cost of about $8,000. The project aims to give the bank a premier North Mississippi presence.

Mass Meeting Called To Seek Tax Relief In Oxford

Hubert Purvis admits shooting in self defense as John Purvis and Hubert surrender to Sheriff Hartsfield. Will Beard leaves a wife and several children.
