Rawhide Special Telegram From Cuariton Iowa May 13
Four small pox deaths at the Depot hotel in Cuariton were linked to rumors about two women leaving after night. Mrs Willoughby assaulted editor W H Whipple with a rawhide and pled guilty to disorderly conduct, fined $20 and costs. A charge of assault and battery by the editor is set for trial tomorrow.

Capture of Wharton with 42 men near Fort Randall
Special dispatch from Sioux City reports Capt. Wharton and a 42 man party with six wagons in the Black Hills were captured at the second crossing of the White River by Lieut. Armstrong of Company G First United States Infantry. They are taken to Fort Randall and will be held as prisoners while headquarters of the Department of the Dakotah issues instructions.
