Flood Relief Fund Raised by Burge and Opp Collection
James Burge and John Opp organized a Friday relief drive across town and collected 180 dollars for flood sufferers statewide. Donations included 50 dollars from Miss Jane Moore and 35 dollars from Otterbein Lumber Co, among many individuals and firms supporting the effort led by Hon. Hugh Doherty of Indianapolis per Gov. Ralston’s appointment.

Death of Orville Haxton at age 14 in Otterbein
Orville Haxton son of Mr and Mrs C K Haxton died Monday morning at 12 20 at the family home ten miles north of Otterbein after a brief illness of cerebro spinal meningitis He was born October 23 1808 Short funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday morning and the remains were taken to Wingate for services there with interment in Pleasant Hill cemetery

The Wabash flood caused power water and communication outages in Lafayette delaying trains and damaging Main Street businesses. State street hill backwater reached far, with higher losses in nearby towns Peru Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. The event left lasting memory of the equinoctal storm.

James P Caufield Rites Held After Local Resident Dies
James P Caufield former resident of Bolivar township died at St Elizabeth Hospital Lafayette Monday at 12 30 from heart failure. He was 51 born in the county and lived most of his life in Bolivar township later moving to Lafayette. Survived by a widow and a young son and a sister Mrs Tulley of Lafayette. Funeral services were from St Anns church and interment at St Mary cemetery.

William Marvin Dies at Home in Montmorenci
William Marvin died at his Montmorenci home on Sunday March 30 1918 at 2 o clock. He was born August 7 1831 in Fountain County and married Levin Johnson in 1852. They had five children, three died in infancy and one son Jesse died later. surviving son John lives in Sheldon Illinois. He moved to Benton County in 1853 and taught school, later marrying America Kerr after Levin’s death. He was described as of good moral character and a devoted Christian.
