Parsons plant a microcosm of defense spending woes
The Parsons Kansas Army Ammunition Plant near 1000 workers stands as a spending study. Despite a Pentagon plan to close the site direct DoD contracts would end in 1993, yet private Day Zimmermann would lease and run it, keeping third party work and foreign sales. Current work includes cluster bombs, 155mm shells, M77 grenades, and cruise missile components. About 300 on cluster bomb line.
