Creative land grants revive Marquette Kansas community
Editorial lauds rural Kansas effort to sustain towns by gifting free home lots in Marquette after school closures. Seventeen new families acquired 20-plus tracts worth about $6,000 each, committing to at least one year. Homes financed by buyers, boosting local jobs, taxes, and school enrollment, with $4,000 per student funding. Governor Sebelius forms a 40 member rural task force to seek health care, education, and economic fixes, stressing creativity to keep Kansan rural life thriving.
