Markets tick higher on jobs data despite Grasso resignation
Stocks drift higher as encouraging labor data and a strong outlook boost the averages. Despite NYSE chairman Dick Grasso stepping down amid scrutiny over his $139.5 million pay, trading showed little reaction as the Dow rose to 9,600.04 and the Nasdaq gained to 1,891.45 while the S&P 500 advanced to 1,033.22. The Leading Indicators index in August matched expectations at 113.3, signaling broader optimism with a caveat about the current business climate. Local grain prices at Overbrook, Ottawa, Edgerton, and Franklin County rose modestly with wheat at 3.20 and milo around 1.99 to 3.41 in places.
