Williamsburg annexation shifts road upkeep to county

Williamsburg市 council approved annexing the entire K-273 Highway linking John Brown Road and old Highway 50, likely forcing Franklin County to maintain it as a major rural road. Attorney William Bayne noted a policy change in April shifted county duties away from non linking city streets, complicating Dane Street and South Street maintenance. County commissioners tabled the issue 40 days for ordinances review, but the plan to appeal for continued upkeep did not advance.

City plans hearing on Cedar Street traffic changes

Ottawans will weigh options for Cedar Street improvements including roundabouts and traffic calming as the city considers widening the road by four feet, adding sidewalks, improving intersections, and installing underground storm drains. A public hearing will be held soon to gather resident input and preferences on features like roundabouts, speed tables, narrow-downs, and chokers amid concerns speeds may rise without enforcement.
