Rain delays fall harvest in Franklin County Kansas
Heavy rain Sunday flooded ditches and saturated fields around Ottawa and Franklin County. With sun and wind ahead some farmers may resume harvest by week’s end. Corn yields averaged 90 to 100 bushels per acre and milo around 90, with soybeans still developing. Elevator space is tight as bins and converted sheds multiply. Grain prices hover near break-even, chilling profits.

Farm loan programs open to minorities through FSA
Federal funds are set aside under the Agricultural Credit Act of 1987 for farm ownership loans to minorities including women and various ethnic groups. Applicants must have operated a farm for at least three years and funds may be used to improve buildings, water, and energy conservation. Call 242-3527 or visit 107 E. 23rd.
