Governor Docking Seen Aiming to Replace Regents Chair
Kansas Governor Robert Docking reportedly plans to replace State Board of Regents chair William F. Danenbarger when his term ends December 31. Rumors point to Junction City publisher John Mosine as a potential successor, with Montgomery also viewed as a likely appointee. Danenbarger, 63, serves as one of five Democrats on the nine member board.

Urge Hike In GI Bill Benefits
Washington AP independent committee urges substantial increases to GI Bill educational benefits for Vietnam era veterans. It notes a gap with World War II benefits, public indifference, and that many veterans cannot afford to use the GI Bill. Proposals include increasing monthly payments and adding a tuition voucher covering 80 percent of tuition and fees. The panel did not price its plan though GI Bill costs $2.5 billion this year.
