Lobbyist Spending Highlighted At Kansas Night In Chicago
Kansas lawmakers attended the National Conference of State Legislatures meeting with 25 legislators and 15 staff among attendees at a July Chicago event. Lobbyists spent 15616 dollars on a reception and dinner at the Sears Tower Metropolis Club, with more than 40 organizations helping fund the gathering. Sponsors included AT&T, Southwestern Bell, Boeing and Western Resources, amid other associations and lobbying firms. The event drew officials from Topeka and prompted questions about influence and social contacts during a five day, taxpayer- funded NCSL conference. The new disclosure law required listing individuals helped by lobbyists, a change enacted prior to July 1.
