Former Ottawa resident Carol Watkins Fancher has moved to Topeka to begin nursing studies at Stormont-Vail Hospital School of Nursing. Her room is Room 41, Burrow Nurses Residence, Stormont-Vail. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Fancher visited her parents Dean and Janie Watkins before returning to McPherson College. The Fanchers spent the summer in Oregon and visited his parents in Rocky Ford, Colorado.

The medical examiner called the death from bereavement shock and unspecified causes.
The first Fischer family reunion was Sunday at Forest Park with a noon basket dinner and an anniversary cake from Mrs. Wilmer Renger of Westphalia. Sixty nine people attended and plans were made for a second reunion at the same location on September 6, 1956 with families from Westphalia Williamsburg Ottawa Sabetha Des Moines Pomona and Kansas City.

U S Air Force helicopters airlifted 26 crewmen from the ice trapped Norwegian seal catcher Jopeter off Greenland. Captain Kurt Nakken and six crewmen stayed aboard to vigil and await towing as the 486 ton vessel drifted southward with its propeller missing along the desolate east coast of Greenland about 850 miles from the North Pole.
