The Herald regrets an error in Wednesday's paper listing roads the county intends to vacate. The correct stretch is 2550 to 2700 Ohio Road, not 1550 to 2700.
FED chair Alan Greenspan warned that worldwide financial strain threatens U.S. prosperity and that policymakers may cut rates as likely as raise them. He noted prior inflation worries in spring and summer, but said August shift balanced risks facing the economy.

Eddie J Hendrix 69 of Iola died Tuesday September 1 1998 at his home. He was born February 23 1929 in Grandview Missouri to Edwin and Lois Hendrix and moved to Iola in 1947. He served in the U S Navy worked for Iola Ready Mix and belonged to Elks Lodge 569. Survivors include son Doug Lear Ottawa three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorials toward the National Elks Foundation to Waugh Yokum Friskel Memorial Chapel.
Eighth annual Field of Dreams Fly-In runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ottawa Municipal Airport with experimental kit aircraft on display and in flight. Forums include an engine teardown, plus a Fly Market and static displays. Admission for forums is 12 dollars. static displays by donation.
