Flooding from nearly six inches of rain over Labor Day Weekend pushed rivers and creeks to the brim in Franklin County but caused no flood deaths or major damage. Marais Des Cygnes River crested near Ottawa at 23.3 feet, with other waterways rising, roads largely passable after washouts and washed gravel. Pomona Lake rose 1.3 feet while camping was dampened.
Five people were injured in vehicle accidents and a fire during the Labor Day weekend. Four victims under 20 sustained injuries in two Saturday and Sunday crashes, with varying hospital outcomes. A Monday fuel tank incident at First Stop Texaco left a man with severe burns and is under investigation by multiple agencies.
A car bomb near the Baghdad police training center wounded many bystanders as U.S.-trained security forces manned the scene. One bystander reported a body in the road while witnesses described widespread debris and heavy smoke. No fatalities were confirmed.
